I've got a seven year old boy who has been obsessed with trains ever since he first laid eyes on them. We've watched countless YouTube videos of model train set ups, been to trade shows and model train museums. He loves the trains of course, but he and I share a love of the tiny worlds, populated with tiny people as well. So I love when I see artists using these figurines, it never gets old to me. Christopher Boffoli uses these figurines juxtaposed against worlds made from food and I love the results. You can find more of his work here.
This is my new favorite song to crank up and dance around to, so thought I'd share it with you to kick off your weekend (you might recognize the singer from the always awesome Portlandia, or the always awesome Sleater-Kinney). Do you have any plans this weekend? If you don't, and live in Southern California, I highly recommend going to LACMA to see the new kinetic sculpture Metropolis II, especially if you have kids! I took my kiddos last weekend and they loved it. They've been asking me all week when we can go back (and hey, since we all get in free thanks to the NexGen program we definitely will be!).
This pic is a little deceptive, this whole sculpture is the size of a room and has 1,000 Hot Wheels, trains, and trams all zooming around it at break neck speeds. They used legos, licoln logs, erector sets, all sorts of building toys. Its amazing!
I shared the first Marcel the Shell video here awhile back because my family had fallen in love with him. And I was so excited to hear they were making a book. I gave it to my kids for Christmas and we've been reading and giggling at it almost every day since. I was really happy that the book is every bit as charming as the videos and love the illustrations. Bottom line? Watch the video and if Marcel makes you giggle at all (and if he doesn't I'm not sure we can be friends), you have to go out and get the book.
Not a day goes by that my daughter doesn't say "Treats and snoozing. Snoozing and treats." :)
